CAMBODIA-ANGKOR WAT -ANGKOR THOM-TA PROHM

We reached Cambodia in 3 hours with a connecting flight from the Caymen Islands. We say let’s stay here for a while. It will only take us 3 days to visit the Angkor temples. Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia is one of the most iconic and breathtaking ancient temples in the world. Built by Khmer King Suryavarman II in the 12th century, Angkor Wat is a stunning example of classical Khmer architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Khmer Empire built the Angkor temples in the middle of Cambodia’s lush forests about 900 years ago, just as the religious transition from Hinduism to Buddhism was beginning. It is the world’s largest religious complex. Angkor Wat was designed as an earthly model of the cosmos – a miniature stone replica of the universe with a central tower rising nearly 60 meters. The outer wall corresponds to the mountains at the edge of the world; the 5-kilometer moat surrounding it symbolizes the oceans beyond

Angkor Thom is a 700-year-old temple built after Angkor Wat. It was the last capital of the Khmer Empire. The temple, which has gates decorated with relief images of good spirits and demons, is thought to have been built on the site of the ancient capital Yasodharapura, which was destroyed in a war at the time.

Ta Prohm is the most popular temple in Angkor. It became one of the most well-known temples when it was used as a film set in Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider movies.
